There isn’t a story alive that doesn’t want to be touched by Hollywood. You could argue with me that, indeed, there are books, stage shows and foreign films that not even the money grabbing part of the industry wants to touch. But the further we go into the rabbit hole of cinema, the more you realise that soon enough - the thing you beloved will be given an adaptation.
So enter Secret in Their Eyes, an upcoming thriller film that is not only based on a novel by Eduardo Sacheri by La Pregunta de sus ojos but has already been adapted to the screen in 2009. Here It’s Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts who’ll tackle this “thriller.”
Ray, Jess and Claire are FBI investigators are torn apart when the teenage daughter of Jess is murdered and her killer is set free. Thirteen years later, Ray brings the case back to light and they discover that he has been on the hunt ever since. Can they help find the murderer?
I air quoted “thriller” because it feels much more like a melodrama wrapped in mystery much like Kidman’s previous affair Before I Go To Sleep. It started off intriguing but the flip forward and the story feels more suited to television than the big screen. Though it is an impressive leading cast but that’s all that makes it really excellent.
Secret in Their Eyes is out in October for the US and March for UK.
