During the late 19th and early 20th Century, the British Empire already spanned great swathes of the globe and continued its expansion throughout the Middle East.
It is during this period of time that acclaimed director Werner Herzog (known for Grizzly Man, Bad Lieutenant and Cave of Forgotten Dreams) has chosen to look at in his latest film Queen of the Desert, a biopic based on the life of Gertrude Bell as she explores the slowly collapsing Ottoman Empire.
The film stars Nicole Kidman alongside Damian Lewis, James Franco as Henry Cadogan as Kidman’s love interests (and the latter sporting a somewhat questionable British accent too!), and Robert Pattinson as T.E. Lawrence
Herzog’s graceful, controlled touch can be felt throughout the three minute trailer, using cinematography in breathtaking ways. Queen of the Desert looks set to be a powerfully told story of one of recent history’s lesser known pioneers.
