Andrew Scott is perhaps more known for playing the devilish and smirking Moriarty who stole every scene he was in (which is a feat considering he played opposite Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch). Yet despite his BAFTA Award Winning performance as the famed consulting criminal (and the millions of fans he has acquired because he is simply that wonderful,) Scott has developed a fresh and different collection of films and stage performances that delight audiences globally. More significantly, he has appeared in Irish film The Stag and show Birdsong, proving that he can leave the skull clad tie behind (and hopefully, only to pick it up next year).
He also stars in the latest exciting British comedy Pride which is marching its way to cinema this September. Starring alongside George McKay, Paddy Consindine and Imelda Staunton, Scott joins a legions of LGBT rights activist as they descend on a small mining village in Wales to support the works there. Directed by Matthew Warchus, Pride is based on a true story and showcases the relationship of expanding acceptance and a united front that is not only feel good but laugh out loud as well.
Scott here plays Gwethin, a gay man who has headed back home to Wales with much contention after a falling out with his mother. This small scene, thanks to Glamour Magazine, allows us to see the tentative in many had through coming out during the 1980’s and how there were people who helped power through acceptance. It also showcases Imelda Staunton’s loveable Hefina encouraging him. Yes, Umbridge and Moriarty, what a pairing! Pride looks incredible and a truly remarkable movie, enough to warm you during the Autumn months!
