In a new "mocumentary" about the film, it's creators claim that it comes down to having a great cast. They wanted actors that would really inhabit their characters and essentially become the species.
Benedict Cumberbatch, who is known for his brilliant impressions, had previously perfected his Poodle and Pitbull but for Penguins had to summon his inner Wolf. Classified, the Wolf leader of secret agency The North Wind, challenged the actor who claims to have joined a real life Wolf pack to prepare for his role. See him bark, grunt and thirstily lap up water all in aid of Penguins.
John Malkovich voices evil Dr. Octavius Brine or Dave to his friends. The evil Octopus is intent on full Penguin Inhalation after encountering the foursome at a previous date. To prepare Malkovich spent forty days and nights in an Octopus tank. The experience put the actor in the mind frame of his boneless counterpart as you will see.
Ken Jeong sadly had an embarrassing first day when he showed up dressed as a Navy Seal. Jeong is actually playing a baby Seal called Short Fuse who is also a member of The North Wind. He quickly rectifies his mistake by driving around Dreamworks HQ dressed in a Seal onsie, (as you do).
Finally, our fearless leader himself Tom McGrath, who voices Penguin front man Skipper, proves his dedication to the role. Never dropping character even when on his lunch break. It is clear why he is in charge of all major Penguin operations. He is also wearing the world's coolest t-shirt.
The film hits cinemas December 5th.
