Now we have a clip from the upcoming film Paddington where our protagonist meets the Brown family. The family dynamic is quickly established here, as it does a pretty decent way throughout. It’s clear enough for children to understand but not so patronising that adults will be put off immediately. The set-up is quite typical in terms of a film nuclear family unit: the grumpy father, the free-minded mother, the moody teenage daughter and the adventurous son. When they encounter Paddington, who approaches and who stays behind is pretty obvious.
What's nice is the way Paddington is portrayed. He’s not some smart-arse street wise bear that thinks he knows it all. He’s a lost, scared bear who has no idea what to do, no idea how to get home and admits it fully. There’s a child like innocence to his character that is no way grating from this clip. Ben Whishaw’s voice fits Paddington’s character very well.
