A new trailer for comedy/drama Jenny’s Wedding has dropped starring Katherine Heigl and Alexis Bledel. The film stars Heigl as the Jenny of the title whose family worry that she has yet to settle down and begin a family. Little do her family know that she is in fact in a loving relationship with Kitty, who they believe is her female flat mate.
She decides to come out to her traditional family who have trouble adjusting to the idea of a gay daughter and the fact they she plans to marry. The trailer shows the typical rom-com ups and downs on the road to the alter as Jenny tries to gain her families blessing.
Despite the films slightly generic and predictable vibe it is great to see a same sex relationship get the even treatment in a mainstream film. It is also great that the two actresses, despite both being attractive, look normal. Instead of the usual, get two chicks who look like Megan Fox to play gay and appeal to men, the film looks to have an element of realism to it.
It has been a while since Heigl had a starring role or vehicle in her career. The actress who has gained a reputation for being difficult was only a few years ago the queen of the rom-coms. Recently her career has been in decline but could this be the film to change all that?
The film is directed and written by Beaches writer Mary Agnes Donoghue. Will that mean it will cause a few tears? Wait and see when the film is released later this year.
