Into The Woods is the live action adaptation of Stephen Sondheim musical of the same name. The story takes popular characters from The Brothers Grimm tales and intertwines their tales; Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and His Beanstalk as well as the Baker and his wife all feature in this newly interpreted fairytale. Into The Woods looks at the wishes, desires and quests of all its characters and demonstrates the consequences of their actions all the while being lured to a mystical woods.
The film stars an a list ensemble cast including Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrink, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt and Brit James Corwen. And in the directors chair is Rob Marshall whose previous works include Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha and Nine. No stranger to stage to film adaptation, the film looks to have all the lush settings and show stopping musical numbers of his other works. The film differs from the stage version but does include a new number written specifically for the film by Sondheim.
There is no trailer as yet but this featurett with cast and crew interviews is enough to get us excited. The US will get the film next mouth were as the UK will have to wait post Christmas to Venture Into The Woods.
