The film was a hit with audiences worldwide so a sequel was immediately on the cards. For the aptly named Hotel Transylvania 2, life has changed at the once safe and boring hotel. Mavis and Jonathan now have a son called Dennis and the Count has learned to let his daughter live her own life. Dennis, (who is adorable) has yet to grow in his fangs which leads his parents to consider moving somewhere human populated for safety. The Count, still afraid to fully cut the parental apron strings, sets out to lure his grandson’s inner vampire out. To aid this he calls in reinforcements in the shape of his father, Papa Dracula himself Vlad, (Mel Brooks) causing a clash of old school and new.
From the trailer the film looks to contain all the humour of the first film with added laughs. What the original film lacked in story, it made up for with sheer fun and the sequel looks to boost much of the same feel. With the Drac-pack reinvented for a family audience the animation will surely appeal to a wide range.
The impressive voice cast, that includes Steve Buscemi, David Spade and Kevin James, can now brag about the inclusion of the legend that is Mel Brooks. His presence suggests great things and adds to the films appeal. Whether or not this can live up to it fun original or just be ‘Blah Blah Blah’ we will have to wait and see.
Hotel Transylvania 2 hits cinemas October 9th.
