Starring Lily Tomlin as the titular family member, Grandma revolves around Elle - a once successful poet who is struggling to come to terms with the death of her long term partner. One day, her granddaughter turns up and tells her she is pregnant and she needs money to sort it out. The two set out on a road trip as Elle visits old friends and family in order to raise the cash. Along the way, the two bond in a seemingly against the world way.
Lily Tomlin is in the middle of a resurgence in her career with this and the incredible Netflix series Rita and Frankie. Also starring Julia Garner, Marcia Gay Harden, Judy Greer, Sam Elliot and Laverne Cox (LAVERNE COX!), this looks like an incredible tender but funny film. It seems to be an infusion of independence sensitivities but without the cliches. Especially as it is centred on an incredible lead.
Grandma will be out some time this year.
