From the first featurette given to us from upcoming war epic Fury the films tagline seems all the more fitting – ‘War never ends quietly’. It may seem like World War II has been done one too many times in the past, but Fury takes a closer look at just one sergeant and his team of 5 men aboard a Sherman tank. Brad Pitt plays sergeant Wardaddy and with his crew they take on a deadly mission in the heart of Nazi Germany.
As one would expect these men are clearly outnumbered and out-gunned. As they place themselves behind enemy lines are overwhelmed with what’s really going on as each and every one of them attempt to put a stop to the fighting.

Director David Ayer who previously gave us End of Watch in 2012 and the recent Sabotage, seems to be a man who isn’t afraid of getting himself stuck into a narrative with the added bonus of action. As actor Michael Pena states, ‘This is a character study with action sequences’, giving us a real sense of how in depth the characters on screen are going to be. Much like the HBO series Band of Brothers, Fury seems to be more about how the characters involved are dealing with the effects of war and the situation itself rather than just throwing loads of action scenes together. The Walking Dead’s Jon Bertnall states that this is ‘An honest look at this one tank unit’s life’s’ as well as former Percy Jackson youngster Logan Lerman telling the cameras that this was way beyond what he ever expected. It seems the actors certainly have their work cut out as well as the filmmakers reported by producer John Lesher. They decided to shoot on film, yes actual film, none of the digital stuff here with pretty high tech lenses and lots of pyrotechnics. Resulting in a very trying process but by reverting back to old-fashioned movie making it seems a beautiful and elegant film has been produced.
In promotion for Fury, David Ayer and the leading cast took a trip to Bovington Tank Museum and from the photographs provided they looked to have had a pretty good time. The film also stars Shia LaBeouf, Jason Isaacs, Jim Parrack and Scott Eastwood. It seems Fury has a lot to offer and you can witness it from October 24th onwards in theatres.
