Bathsheba Everdene (Mulligan) comes into the possession of a large farm after the passing of her uncle. She is very headstrong and independant, and decides she will turn the run-down farm into one of, if not the best in the country. As she works tirelessly to make this happen, she attracts the attention of three potential suitors, all extremely different from each other: Gabriel Oaks (Schoenaerts) a sheep farmer, Frank Troy (Sturridge) a Sergeant and William Boldwood, a mature bachelor.
A new featurette has been released for the film, where the cast and crew talk about the set locations and why they chose them. All of the filming occurred in Dorset where they found Mapperton House, which thus became Everdene farm. We get a behind the scenes look at the stunning countryside, the rolling hills, high cliffs and the beautiful architecture that gives the film a real feeling of grandeur, whilst sticking to its “town in the middle of nowhere” feel. It is clear that the location team have done an absolutely brilliant job.
But, of course. you can’t decide how good the film is just on set and location alone. Will this second adaption of the popular novel live up to expectations? Well, as well as having a brilliant cast and a plot read and loved by millions worldwide, you would hope so.
Far From the Madding Crowd is set for cinematic release nationwide on the May 1st.
