Ex Machina is set to be one of the best science-fiction/Thriller films of all time. Directed by Alex Garland, it tells the story of computer coder Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson) who wins the chance to stay for a week at a house in the mountains to participate in an experiment involving artificial intelligence.
We have been given a wonderful new clip for the film, in which we see Caleb and friend Nathan sitting outside drinking when Nathan notices that Caleb obviously feels sorry for Ava (Alicia Vikander). Trying to put his mind at ease, Nathan decides it would be a good idea to talk about how he thinks that, once AI has taken over the world, they will look down on the bones of humans much like we look down at the fossils and bones of Neanderthals, that we are to them what Neanderthals are to us. It’s really rather a bleak and depressive outlook on life, Caleb quoting Oppenheimer, the creator of the atomic bomb, and you are left feeling rather despondent.
Ex Machina seems to be an extremely interesting look into artificial intelligence and the way that it could affect all of our lives if it were to ever be created. Its UK cinematic release is set for the 23rd of January, so don’t worry, we don’t have to wait much longer.
