If you are a hedonistic freshly legal teen or an adult trying to escape responsibility, then heading to the isles of beaches such as Ibiza or Crete is a rite of passage. One that filmmakers like to exploit for big screen antics. The Inbetweeners, It’s All Gone Pete Tong and heck, even Kevin & Perry Go Large have entertained us with DJ escapades and more. Not willing to be outdone by the Zac Efron’s film We Are Your Friends, director Mia Hansen-Love takes a more dramatic approach to the summer club scene.
Based on her brother’s experiences, Eden revolves around Paul - a teenager who spends a lot of his time on the underground scene of Paris in the early nineties. Cue a film about like, life, man and exploring drugs and sex whilst staying true to, like yourself, and the music, man.
Despite critically positive reviews, Eden is a film that looks to polarise people. Some who love that lifestyle of beats and exploration will adore it. Some who’d rather a cup of tea than a tablet of E will abhor it or find it tedious. Certainly with this new trailer, it looks to be hitting a particular set of people and doesn’t offer too much to titillate.
Eden is out 25th of July.
