No? Well Open Road Films and Sony have just released the trailer for their new film Dope, which tells the story of Malcolm, a geek living in The Bottoms, a rough neighbourhood swarming with drug dealers and gangsters, and his transformation from being Geek to being Dope. He is a straight A student that manages to get himself into a tricky situation after getting on the wrong side of a drug dealer at an underground party, putting his chances of attending Harvard University on the line.
The film drew a lot of attention from its appearance at the Sundance Film Festival where it appeared in the Dramatic Competition category and sold to Open Road Films and Sony, and has received a lot of critical acclaim. You can see why. It seems to be a film with a unique feel to it, very fresh and smooth, with bursts of action, drama and humour. The cast look to be extremely talented, with their acting in this trailer on par, brilliantly portraying their emotions, opinions and feelings as they deal with the task of becoming secret drug dealers in order to make a name for themselves. Shameik Moore, who plays Malcolm, is only just starting out in his acting career and this film could see him catapulted to stardom if the film lives up to the hype.
Fuelled by great comedy, edge-of-your-seat moments and new music by Pharrell Williams, Dope is set to be an enjoyable film, scheduled for cinema release in America on the 19th of June.
