Chappie, the robot, learns from outside influence whether it be good or bad and these clips definitely seem to focus on the bad - the robot manages to get itself into a gang. Whether the intent is truly malicious or something else, such as undercover infiltration, as another clip suggests (which shows the police with various "Chappie style" robots busting the gang), remains to be seen.
However Chappie chooses to develop, it seems to have some ramifications on the outside world - rioting in the streets, violence - and the only solution to these problems is the destruction of Chappie.
Perhaps Chappie tells the story of a robot that learns and connects with it's own humanity isn't accepted and ostracized by a society that doesn't fully understand? Whatever the actual story, Blomkamp has always been one for building a fully realised fictional world and filling it with social commentary and Chappie seems no different.
Starring Hugh Jackman, Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel and Sigourney Weaver, Chappie releases in cinemas across the UK on March 6th.
