The previous trailer for Boychoir, or The Choir in some places, seemed to sum up this film as fluffy musical world as though it was only one rung of seriousness away from Glee. Heck, it even has Kevin McHale in it. There was a light-heartedness to it that focused on the religious hymn element as little school boys singing about Jesus and God. After all, what else could a film about choirs, actually singing to the heavens, be like?
And then this trailer came out like “woah, cool it a little, Hoffman.”
Boychoir or The Choir The film revolves around Stet, an extremely angry eleven year old who has been terrorising everything and everyone around him in the wake of his mother’s death. However, when he is thrust into the choir, his behaviour and attitude comes face to face with a brutal instructor - can he find a way to tackle his emotions through the medium of song?
It’s very intense. It’s as though Dead Poet’s Society met Coach Carter and the argument got far over hearted. The collection of stars is great though. You cannot deny any film that puts Dustin Hoffman and Eddie Izzard together as well as the aforementioned McHale. It could go well but it could be entirely overtly sentimental too.
