I honestly don’t understand the logic here. A month or so ago, Before I Go To Sleep revealed an ingenious and unforgettable trailer that, whilst seemed predictable, felt unnerving; set to an impossibly thrilling score. That explosive trailer was intriguing, setting a rather great tone for British dramas everywhere. Uniting the talents of Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth and Mark Strong, Before I Go To Sleep centred on Christine Lucas, a woman, who since her late twenties, has forgotten everything. Waking up with no new memories, she uncovers a sinister plot where she cannot trust her husband, her doctor and even herself.
Genuinely, I cannot stress this enough, if you see the first trailer, you’ll see what I meant by it being enticing. However, the series of clips that have followed are merely plot exposition and not great plot exposition either. Tedious, bland and boring; the only thing interesting about this clip is the introduction of Mark Strong and the mysterious feel as he states he is her doctor. Understandably, a movie such as Before I Go To Sleep would want to play their cards close to the chest so needing to showcase dull clips may be imperative to keeping the illusion. But it does nothing to entice you in. Hopefully, the final product will be better than this.
Before I Go To Sleep is out tomorrow
