Mid-life crisis in movies always seem to take place in the woods. After all, that’s where a man must reconnect with nature and transgress back to those wild caveman days. There have been an abundance of comedy movies that also take a city man and place him in the forest hell and wait for the nature around to eat you alive. That’s generally the type of movie we’re expecting from A Walk in the Woods.
Based on Bill Bryson memories and starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte, the movie revolves around Brysn’s decision to hike a trail from Georgia to Maine. Only, when he tries to find a companion, he only finds former friend Steven Katz who is trying to escape overdue debts.
What could work is the conflicting, ha ha, nature of the pair. Whilst always so prevalent in these kinda movies - one stoic and the other an idiot - A Walk In The Woods actually looks to charm with these personas switched and swapped. Also starring Emma Thompson, Nick Offerman and Kristen Schaal, this could be something good!
