TV shows based on comic books are the thing of today. For years, we’ve had all the Batman cartoons, Spider-Man cartoons, Justice League etc. but in recent years we’ve been hit by show like Arrow and Marvels’ Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Both shows have garnered big followings, but whilst these two have followed on from others (Smallville and The Avengers film series, respectively), Fox’s latest show is taking us back in time. To a time before Batman, in Gotham.
The trailer shows off a rough, gritty edge to the show (as have most Batman adaptations), creating a good atmosphere for the city and the types of people that inhabit it. Hopefully, this show will prove to people that not everything is about Batman. In every other film and show, he’s the main character, he’s the hero, and he’s the badass. But now Batman is only a fragile little boy. It’ll be interesting to see that side of Bruce Wayne, before any of the Batman stuff, and see his emotions following his parent’s death. Now it’s Gordon’s turn to be the hero, and prove that not every saviour needs a cape.
It’s a short trailer, but it’s not hard to tell that Gotham will give shows like S.H.I.E.L.D a run for their money.
