It says a lot about a show when it needs to rely on one cast member to be any good. By no means is The Following a bad show, in fact is it rather entertaining, however it wouldn’t be anywhere near as good if it wasn’t for the casting of James Purefoy as the baddie Joe Carroll. And in this episode, his talent truly shined.
This season of The Following is certainly looking a lot darker, and not just in terms of plot, but in terms of appearance. Every scene is darker than the last, and perhaps it’s a method of setting the mood. Either way, it’s rather distracting; lighting can be very important, but when it’s the dullest scenes of an episode, it only makes harder to watch if you’re not only not interested but also unable to see what’s bloody happening.
Two episodes down and 13 more to go, The Following is off to a slow start, but that’s nothing a little more Weston, a little more Joe, and the return of Badass Bacon can’t solve.
