Following on from the highs of a successful episode last week, ‘The Relationship Diremption’ sees the split of Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and a great love (no, it isn’t Amy) and he struggles to cope with the break-up, considering he has dedicated his life to the theory. It is rare that an episode in a series will be as good, if not better, than the first, but this week’s episode disproves the theory, as it was packed with hilarity and possessed solid storylines.

It is rare that an episode in a series will be as good, if not better, than the first, but this week’s episode disproves the theory, as it was packed with hilarity and possessed solid storylines.
Following on from the under-developed relationship between Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Emily (Laura Spencer) in last week’s episode, we see the two back together, and on a double date with Howard (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch). Things don’t exactly go well, but not for whom you would think, it turns out Howard had met Emily before. The whole segment with Howard turned the tables a bit on the situation, and allowed Raj to sit back and relax a bit, even if it’s not entirely clear where this relationship with Emily is going, and what they even have in common, but here’s hoping for more information later in the series.
It is always a delight to see Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) and Sheldon together, so it was comforting to see Penny trying to cheer Sheldon up following his realisation that he might have to part with string theory (plus extra hilarious that Sheldon kept mentioning Penny’s relationship with Leonard and her acting career, encouraging her to ‘shake hands and move on’). The episode was just brimming with points of amusement and when Sheldon gets his hands on alcohol, you know it’s going to be a wacky, but entertaining time, and the incorporation of Sheldon’s relationship with geology was cleverly done. Parsons acting is always on point with Sheldon and the ending scene with Sheldon leaving drunk messages on Stephen Hawking’s answer phone was superbly performed and, needless to say, extremely funny.
Let’s hope the series continues this high and rolls out another quality episode next week, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll get to see where this Raj/Emily relationship is going.
