The emotional rollercoaster that was the Once Upon A Time season finale blew us all for six. Some people have been left in a state of shock caused by the unprecedented explosion of fairytale drama and the aftermath in Storybrooke; I know I was one of them. But remembering back through the swirling vortex that was the finale, there were several twists which came a bit out of the blue…
Anyone else wondering about the Snow Queen?
Elsa and Anna have been praised as fantastic role models for girls, showing you don’t need no man to build yo’self an ice palace, face up to a giant snowman and punch a prince in the face, know what I’m sayin’? Sorry, girl power and all that… (Disclaimer: I’m With Geek does not condone violence towards snowmen or princes; seek council permission before building an ice palace.) However the film is the DISNEY version. How will OUAT portray the story with its own flourish and mystery?
Well firstly, as we learnt in the last episode, the portal from Rumplestiltskin’s secret, evil vault in the past dragged through an extra object in addition to transporting Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) back to the present. This urn, vase, posh Tupperware then began to leak blue liquid pooling together to form a woman; a woman who looks suspiciously like our Queen Elsa of Arendelle. (Of course this happened after Emma and Hook had left… nothing like the potential of impending doom that no one knows about!)
-Will the long spell in the urn have made her a more bad-tempered, frostier Elsa than Disney led us to believe?
-How did she get in there in the first place? A backfired spell? The handiwork of Rumplestiltskin?
-Was it forced or by request – in the film Elsa does try to seclude herself from the world?
-Is the urn related to the prison of the genies in OUAT in Wonderland? Magic crossing over perhaps?
-Will this prompt a musical episode of OUAT?(if TBBT and Buffy can do it…)
As the Disney retelling spirals so far away from the original Hans Christian Anderson tales how will OUAT plan it out? If you are containing your excitement at this point, congratulations.
It has been announced that Anna will be played by Elizabeth Lail, while Kristoff will be played by Scott Michael Foster. With this couple introduced to the story there are questions of Elsa-related romance and which other character is under the spotlight for this particular job?
And speaking of characters, who else from the Disney film will be making an appearance. Sven the reindeer would be a lovely surprise, however we all want OLAF! If OUAT can give Jiminy the cricket a voice and animate a wooden August/Pinocchio it can’t be too hard – in fact perhaps they have been building up to this point all along…
OUAT Season Four is scheduled to return Autumn 2014.
