Curses. Raising all sorts of magical drama in little towns filled with fairytale characters relating to personal relationships, heart ripping and ominous weather formations since ONCE’s debut four seasons ago. After yet another curse related build up we find ourselves stuck in a bit of rut: no Frozen themed wedding, no Rumplestiltskin led revolution and no abundance of ice queen sundaes for everyone. But there is always more to ONCE than ice cream.

The town, in the present day, descended into chaos with the onset of the spell of shattered sight. Even the seven dwarves turned on one another with Granny roaming the streets with a shotgun. And as for Kristoff, loveable happy Kristoff… he was hating on Anna and his hairstyle. There were some fantastic snide remarks which have been logged in this writer’s day to day comments list. Definitely watch the episode… We also learned that if you don’t have a heart, you are also immune to the curse – welcome to the club Hook.
Regina (Lana Parrilla) returned to her fantastic old ways, having forgotten that she had trapped herself in her vault in the first place, in full costume and growling voice. Luckily for her, and unluckily for everyone else, the only way Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Elsa (Georgina Haig) could break free from the Snow Queen’s yellow ribbons of ‘love’ was if they were attacked by pure hatred. Enter Regina stage right. Interestingly the worst thing she did was go and have a sword fight with Snow White; surely the spell of shattered sight would have driven her towards Henry or Robin Hood?

A happy Christmassy ending with the obligatory Snow and Charming kiss scene and happy townsfolk gathering as snow starts to fall. BUT no Anna/Kristoff wedding?! It had better be next week otherwise Christmas is cancelled.
