The stage is set. Next week we are in for a two hour finale special where everything we know about the ONCE heroes and villains will be turned on its head. This week was busy enough with reunions, two dragon ladies, a blackened heart and Queen Cora’s return to the Enchanted Forest.
The stage is set. Next week we are in for a two hour finale special where everything we know about the ONCE heroes and villains will be turned on its head. This week was busy enough with reunions, two dragon ladies, a blackened heart and Queen Cora’s return to the Enchanted Forest.
The episode primarily revolved around Regina, Lily and Rumplestiltskin as fate played its powerful hand over the head of the Author. Storybrooke is in for a much needed major shake up following a season which, although presenting some novel ideas and exciting plot twists, has been a bit lacklustre.
In the past we were also introduced to Regina’s early days of ruling the kingdom and how she was still heavily affected by Daniel’s death at the hands of her mother, Cora. The two meet again in a set of unbelievable events (even by ONCE’s standards) which see Regina on a date with The Sherriff of Nottingham and ending in Regina taking a potion to prevent her from having children – the ultimate wound to Cora and her desire for a ruling dynasty. In the present we see how far Regina has developed as a character from those dark beginnings; the fact that she managed to reign back the fair desire to make Zelina explode is a true testament of that.

Lily was reunited with her mother, Maleficent, and again in a turn of events only capable from ONCE found herself in such a tantrum that she turned into a dragon. Those pesky dragon genes! The experience drew her closer to her mother which was an endearing scene and it would be great to see their relationship blossom – hopefully the events of the finale won’t ruin this week’s progress! Dragon Lily also led to Emma forgiving Snow and Charming for their actions in the past appearing to cement herself on the good side.
And finally Rumplestiltskin/Mr Gold has been having major heart problems as a result of his lifetime of dark deeds and schemes; his heart is almost completely black. But as said already the cogs are in motion as his plan to rewrite history with the help of the Author and a new book: Heroes and Villains.
Everything is going to be topsy turvy next week – the perfect excuse to get out the popcorn for a feature length finale which we are sure to not forget.
