With the 2015 elections looming heavily over us as each and every political party trying to prove their worth to the masses, Chapter 37 seems a rather fitting episode for such a time. Without a doubt this is the most nail biting, enticing and revealing episode of season three so far. From the get go this episode resonates spitefulness and viciousness as it is made painfully obviously how vindictive this man and woman are when put up against each other.

Without a doubt this is the most nail biting, enticing and revealing episode of season three so far. From the get go this episode resonates spitefulness and viciousness as it is made painfully obviously how vindictive this man and woman are when put up against each other.
Virtually everyone who watches this show is disappointed when an episode goes by when we aren’t directly spoken to by Mr. Spacey himself – in fact, it’s heartbreaking. The writers so cleverly give us just enough, only to take it away leaving us gagging for more. Fortunately, we are back in Frank’s good books as we are welcomed back with snide, sarcastic remarks that make us giggle inside. Such comments prepare us for the verbal punch up we are about to witness as Underwood, Dunbarr and Sharp take the stage for their first debate together in Iowa. This becomes an uncomfortable mixture of infantile hair pulling and spitefulness that results in nothing other than a cocktail of pure embarrassment. It is impossible to believe that these candidates believe in helping the nation as it is made painfully obvious they are only helping themselves. Clutching at straws, a conniving Frank leads Jackie on only to punch her in the face leaving her appearing as nothing but a hypocrite in front of the entire nation.
Amongst all the flying daggers and back stabbing, the first lady is desperate to keep up appearances. Ensuring her marriage is at the forefront, whilst illustrating how much she cares for the people as her husband takes care of everything else. She even gets close to Tom and offers her side of things in a very protective way clearly to ensure that nothing too telling is written about the now President. When it comes to their marriage it has become more apparent through the series development that there is something not quite right. We are offered a very disturbing scene as Claire gives blood confirming our suspicions that there is something sinister lurking deep beneath the surface. Meanwhile, Remy and Doug are developing into complex characters, both in need of a cathartic release before they spontaneously combust.
Frank thinks he is playing presidential, albeit he closely resembles an out of control pitbull terrier who needs to be kept on a leash. It’s difficult to comprehend how political drama is ever going to match this incredibly tightly written show; and indeed Spacey and Wright’s performances. The game is getting tougher, but by no means is this man ever going to give up.
