Following last week’s epic return of hit series House of Cards, the second instalment is equally as engaging. There is something so captivating about watching Frank and Claire communicate on screen. This relationship, founded on power and success, is rather dysfunctional but it appears to be what these two humans need in order to survive.
The characters are creations of corruption and greed. Series composer Jeff Beal provides yet another ideally flawed composition that works seamlessly alongside the trials and tribulations each person has to expertly wangle out of. There’s no doubt these two are in way over their heads. We are presented with a split screen montage of both a worried Frank and concerned Claire grovelling in order to maintain their positions. The amount of pressure they are both under seems to be grinding them down the bone and one can’t help but ask the question - “Was it really worth it?” As for Doug, I am sure he is asking himself that question every day, yet he still wants in. Now that’s dedication.
It’s a bad day for this powerhouse of a couple and they are falling, falling fast. Not even nepotism will save Claire now. Emotional lapses and frustrated outbursts are frequent; it’s going to take hard work and quick thinking to ensure their security in The White House.
