GUYS! Right, ok, what I’m about to say might shock you. I worry that some of you may suffer fatal heart attacks or even just a loss of breath, but this is big, this is SO BIG! Right, are you ready? On this week’s Homeland....
Yes, a painfully dull episode was saved at the very end by a scene which finally gets the ball rolling with this season. And no, Brody was not in this episode.
The episode starts as Quinn comes to visit Saul, who is preparing for a hunting trip with Senator Lockhart (as explained by his wife in the very little time she is ever allowed). He brings Quinn into the loop on the mission with Carrie, to which he makes the same face I did when I saw that appalling twist, and is told to watch over her. They believe Majid Javadi, the man behind the Langley bombings, is entering the country. Finally, Mira mentions that Saul is up for nomination to be the director of the CIA.
Over to Dana, who tells Leo they should find a place where no one knows them. Whilst at the gas station, she listens to a new report about the pair being missing, where it’s revealed that Leo is the suspect for his brother’s death. She demands the truth, and he tells her that they were playing a game with their father’s gun (which was Leo’s idea) and it went off. Sick of lies, Dana voluntarily runs to a police car in order to go home. She tells Jess and Chris she’s fine, but later breaks down in her room.
Back to Saul and his hunting trip, where he is told by Senator Lockhart that it is actually he who the president is nominating for director, and not Saul. Later that night, as everyone praises the senator, Saul makes a toast where he makes it abundantly clear that he disapproves of this appointment and does not care for it. He arrives a day early, to find Mira having dinner with another man. He ignores it and goes upstairs.
Go get your copy of the dictionary, and look up the word ‘Nothing’. You know what you’ll find? The definition of the word nothing, which is essentially the first forty minutes of this episode (Bonus points to whoever got that reference). Seriously, whilst in description it might sound like stuff went down, but in execution, nothing interesting happened. I found myself yawning through most of it. But, it was nice to see that I might be wrong about the casting of the show.
If you remember, last week I had a little rant about the main cast members and how much they’re used. Well, I think my prayers have been answered; Mira got two scenes in this episode (TWO) and the second was rather interesting. So she’s got another guy over. The immediate reaction for me, and I’m sure for most people, was “They’re shagging”. You could tell by the way she instantly was like “This is a colleague of mine, we’re just friends” etc. And Saul at this point is just like “Bitch I don’t care”. And I actually wonder why she does though. I mean, for the most part, she treats their marriage like it’s nothing and it was even said that things may not work out, so hopefully this scene sets up for big scene involving the two.
Also, it seems Senator Lockhart is earning his place too. He tells Saul that when he is director, he will be out of a job if he doesn’t abide by his reforms. God, are these people just using Saul to earn their main cast credit? I can tell that Lockhart is going to do some damage in this new position. And let’s get this straight: I may be happy about him getting a bigger part, but in no way do I like him. He’s an arsehole, and Saul is the better man for the job.
Oh yeah, and Chris came back. Not a single line. Just a hug. That was it. Main cast credit, guys, main cast credit.
So, will next week’s episode be more exciting than this drivel? What will happen to Carrie during her meeting with Javadi? Will we see Brody again, and if so, where will his story go? And will Chris EVER become useful? Find out next week, same Geek time, same Geek place.
