So, Homeland has only 2 episodes left before this season is up. And if I’m honest....I’m not all that bothered. True, I’ve done nothing but praise the show these past few weeks, but the season as a whole I think has been rather bad. This episode was very conflicting, switching really good to really bad back and forth. So, let’s get into it.
Speaking of which, Brody is now in Iraq, outside the Iran-Iraq border, waiting for night fall. Three Kurdish police officers approach them. With the police not believing their cover story, they are forced to kill the officers. The violence scares Brody who tries to escape, but Azizi catches him and convinces him to calm down.
Azizi drives Brody to the border, but before they can reach it, they drive over a land mine. Both men are shaken up, with Azizi missing his left leg. The rest of the soldiers come to help. The explosion attracts more Kurdish police, who start firing at the group.
Saul, confident the mission has failed, hands over control to the JSOC Commander, who orders them to abort the mission, and leaves the room. Brody refuses to abort, confident he can make it to the border without getting shot. Carrie tries to talk him out of it, but to no avail, as he is convinced that she’ll get him out if there’s trouble. Turani, one of the soldiers, decides to hang back and supply covering fire for Brody. As he runs, they are stopped by Iranian soldiers. Brody tells them that he bombed the CIA and they take him in.
Whilst waiting in their cell, Brody and Turani are visited by Majid Javadi, who shoots Turani in the head. The pair then set for Tehran.
Like I said, a very up and down episode. Whilst the scene where Brody and Azizi hit a land mine was kind of terrifying, a lot of the episode was a bit meh.
My main issue lies with the ending, as a character is killed with no good reason other than to remind us that Majid Javadi is a bit of nasty bastard, something we already knew but clearly not well enough.
