After how many episodes we have had from the first series of Gotham, 11 to be exact, the feisty mean machine that is Fish Mooney has finally decided to make her move on Falcone. However, her well thought-out plan doesn’t go as smoothly as she would have hoped. In the 12th instalment titled What the Little Bird Told Him, the crime-ridden streets of Gotham are threatened with the electrical inventions of Arkham Asylum escapee, maniacal madman Jack Gruber (Christoper Heyerdahl).

However, her well thought-out plan doesn’t go as smoothly as she would have hoped. In the 12th instalment titled What the Little Bird Told Him, the crime-ridden streets of Gotham are threatened with the electrical inventions of Arkham Asylum escapee, maniacal madman Jack Gruber (Christoper Heyerdahl).
Even though we see Fish at the top of her game, thinking she has out-smarted someone isn’t anything we haven’t seen countless of times before. Additionally, the fact that this is just another police investigation with the same two cops makes for mundane viewing. Sadly, there is also a distinct lack of young Bruce Wayne; although we get to see a lot more of Dexter star David Zayas as big man Sal Maroni which isn’t a bad thing. It turns out his story goes deeper than we imagined, and he even partially agrees to helping out Gordon and Bullock with their case. We are past the half way line now and it’s great to see some character development really creep through. In fact, this entire episode enables us to connect the dots very well, not just with the people on screen but with the people that they will inevitably become.
Robin Lord Taylor continues to impress as Penguin, despite getting beaten to a pulp by Falcone’s butch body guard Victor and letting the cat out of the bag. Albeit, the character we are all yearning for is The Riddler. Here Cory Michael Smith carefully shows us how Nygma gets to breaking point and offers some light laughs when trying to associate a bullet in a cupcake as being beautiful in order to impress Miss Kringle (bad move!).
Ultimately, the main gripe is that it becomes apparent in the first five minutes how the plot is going to resolve. As we know the dark and seedy city of Gotham is full of false friends and enemies, and virtually everyone is playing both sides. Unfortunately, just like Harvey says, “I need something stronger than Beer”, Gotham needs something stronger than the same formulaic and repetitive tactics they choose to utilise.
