With last week’s stellar reveal of who ‘The Joker’ actually is (finally – it’s about time!) in this juvenile Batman Universe with latest episode, Red Hood, we are offered a much more in depth look at characters that have been overlooked.

With last week’s stellar reveal of who ‘The Joker’ actually is (finally – it’s about time!) in this juvenile Batman Universe with latest episode, Red Hood, we are offered a much more in depth look at characters that have been overlooked.
Ordinarily, this episode still can’t get out of the clichéd, ‘let’s put Gordon and Bullock on a case’ and integrate all other plotlines around it. This week the two are taking on the Red Hood gang after a series of bank robberies have gone down – well, this is Gotham City after all. It’s hard to top that oh so phenomenal performance from Monaghan as Jerome, last week, however Harry Potter’s David O’Hara gives it a go as Butler Alfred’s old pal Reggie. Of course, with every new character this one also has something to hide, albeit we are provided with a bit more of an insight into Alfred’s SAS past which is refreshing. Not only do we feel as if Alfred has now had ‘his’ episode as it were, Reggie seems to be the catalyst for Bruce really wanting to get on with some training and moulding himself into the Batman we all know too well. No question about it, young Mazouz is continuing to impress us week after week with his fiery little Bruce Wayne – he will be running Wayne Enterprises in no time!
Meanwhile, Selina and Ivy are still chilling in Gordon’s apartment and Barbara, now a minor alcoholic, realises exactly what she has done when she witnesses a tender moment between her ex and Dr. Thompkins. As we trudge through the various faces and characters we all know so well, it’s nice to see a fresh face or something done differently. Sadly however, over in the corner they always seem to get themselves backed into with Fish Mooney and Penguin - It's official, their feud is quickly turning stale. It would be very beneficial to the entire series if they really used these two talented actors for something other than a shouting match. Despite things constantly being thrown into the mix, it seems the writers really can’t pin down exactly how they want this story to develop. Apart from knowing a few DC secrets, (but that would be telling), they really need to mix up this sub-plot a bit and put it back together again with real substance.
Even though we all saw Cameron Monaghan’s Joker in the last episode, Gotham is still constantly throwing us red herrings with little clues just to throw us off track. What will next’s episode bring?
