Game of Thrones is always on people’s lips. Whether they’re talking about how good it is, the shocking moments that have happened, or even debating about the books and the show, everyone is always talking about it. Unfortunately, it’s not always for a good reason. Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken is easily the worst episode of the season so far, and you all know why. But let’s get through the positives first before we discuss....That.

The Jaime/Bronn dynamic is wonderful. It’s better showcased in other episodes but the pairing of these two is a lot smarter and entertaining than first imagined. They had a pretty cool fight with the Sand Snakes, although it was a little hard to take seriously when they looked so ridiculous. Also, when they first arrived in Dorne, Jaime struggled fighting a normal soldier who likely would’ve killed him had it not be for Jaime’s last minute hand block, yet somehow he does quite alright against the Sand Snakes, apparently some of the best warriors in Dorne. Nevertheless, it was the best scene of the entire episode.
The other positive that came in this episode was the performance from Finn Jones as Loras Tyrell. We’ve already discussed how stupid this plotline is but at least it gave Jones a chance to truly shine in this episode, where he stopped being the character that was gay for the sake of being gay, and actually unleashed some emotion. Bravo, sir.

Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room: The final scene. Sorry to once again put it into words, but the ending of this episode saw Sansa Stark, following her wedding to Ramsey, getting raped by her new husband as Theon is forced to watch. As you can imagine, most people are pretty pissed off about this. Some people have tried to defend it, saying it shows the realistic treatment of women in Westeros, which is a fair point. But it just feels so unnecessary. In the books, apparently Ramsey still does this (Though not with Sansa) but it’s only implied (Apologies for any mistakes there). There’s no reason why the same thing couldn’t have been done here; Ramsey is a disturbing individual. Everybody would believe he is a rapist without seeing it, given all the demented things he does. And whilst showing Ramsey to be the evil, sadistic son of a bitch he is bodes well for Iwan Rheon’s performance (He is completely excellent), we didn’t need to see this. It’s like when Jaime raped Cersei in Season Four. The director can say that it wasn’t rape all he likes, but that’s just bullshit. That scene, and this scene, is rape for the sake of rape, which should NOT be a thing on TV. Hopefully, this rape scene will have a more enticing outcome than the last one. What I mean by that is Jaime and Cersei just went straight back to normal after that scene and neither of them were affected by that, it would seem. The only positive thing that could come out of this would be unleashing a rage within Sansa or Theon to finally take out Ramsey, but again, the same thing could have been done without showing it. It was nothing more than to increase shock value.
On top of that, the episode was just completely boring. None of the storylines feel like they’re going anywhere. We’re on Episode Six, meaning there’s four more left and yet most of these stories (Namely Jorah’s story, Arya’s story and Dany’s story) don’t even feel like they’ve reached the halfway mark. Hopefully this is just for the sake of setting up bigger things but it does not make for good entertainment. At least the Stannis and Jon storylines are going exciting places.
