It was a pretty weak outing in Westeros this week, though it had its moments. We got to see just how badass Greyworm really is, unnecessary boobs (Because boobs), a great start to a hopefully epic storyline, this, alongside the criminalisation of homosexuality, has sent the show down an even darker path, allowing it to spread its wings further from the yoke of its literary origins.

Apparently they have strayed from the books once again and the Sparrows have imprisoned Loras Tyrell for his ‘sins’ and murdered several other gay men in Littlefinger’s brothel. Um....Okay? I won’t say what actually happens in the book in place of this scene (And even then, I don’t even know the full story) but from the sounds of it, it makes little to no sense for this storyline to be happening. This just seems to be a way of Cersei being a bitch to Margaery in a way that fits the path they’ve taken with the show. Maybe this will turn into something good. Maybe it will remain pointless. Who knows? All we know is that Finn Jones is probably pissed that’s been playing Loras for four seasons now and still isn’t main cast, yet new characters who have been introduced this season have immediately taken up the reign.

It wasn’t all bad. Jaime and Bronn arrived in Dorne, where Jaime had his first proper fight without a hand. He kind of sucks. But of course, that was to be expected, and it hopefully won’t mean the death of him. Especially since he’s worked out his other hand is more useful than he thinks. He can catch swords with it, but why can’t he, like, knock people out with it? Just hit people in the bridge of their nose with the hand that’s made of fucking gold and they’ll be straight on the ground. That’s one thing Bronn couldn’t teach him. However, this storyline is slightly dragged down a bit by Ellayria Sands and her Sand Snakes who vow to avenge Oberyn’s death. Look lady, we all miss Oberyn, okay? But he agreed to take part in that trial by combat, knowing that he would face death, and this was not a personal attack from the Lannisters and should not be taken as such. Apparently, her book counterpart is nowhere near this vengeful. This is also where the script got a bit contrived, when that girl went on a massive speech about what Oberyn did for her and it’s like “Yeah, a simple yes or no would suffice love”.

We must say a Game of Thrones goodbye (We say too many of these) to Ian McElhinney as Ser Barristan Selmy, one of the greatest warriors in Westeros who was taken out by a few unarmoured guys with knives. Wow. On top of that, Melisandre got her tits out to fill the boob quota for this show (Before saying “You know nothing, Jon Snow” which was cringe worthy), Littlefinger’s voice is turning into Irish gibber, Danaerys is still very boring. But at least we got to see the Unsullied doing what they do best, with Greyworm in particular being completely badass, but the best scene of the episode came from Stannis Baratheon.

The Stannis Massive (Thank you, Thronecast) are still at Castle Black and we got a particularly touching moment between Stannis and his daughter Shereen. You have to feel sorry for her; her deformity has lead even her own mother to shun her. But Stannis told her of the lengths he went to to make sure that she survived her illness. Stannis has never been a particularly emotional person, so this was nice and different, and an excellent performance from Stephen Dillane.

So it was a pretty bad week, bar two of its storylines. Is the show’s quality falling too fast or are there better things on the horizon?
