Big news for Arrow fans today – Superman is joining the cast! Well, kind of. Superman the character might not be showing up to help Oliver Queen fight crime, but it has just been announced that actor Brandon Routh will be appearing in series three of Arrow as Ray Palmer, also known as superhero the Atom.
“An unparalleled scientist and inventor, Ray will play an unexpected role in the lives of Oliver and (rumoured love interest) Felicity as the new owner of Queen Consolidated. Palmer’s plans for Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division will be shrouded in mystery.”
Stephen Amell, titular star of Arrow, responded to the announcement on Facebook with the five words “our world just got bigger,” and welcomed Routh to the team on Twitter.
Ray Palmer plays an important part in the DC comic book world, appearing as part of the Justice League, and also the Teen Titans after being de-aged. And with spin-off series The Flash set to premiere on October 7th, the day before Arrow returns for its third season, DC fans who can’t wait for the shared universe of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice should turn to their TV screens to see their favourite heroes interacting.
Arrow season three will premiere on October 8th on the CW (US) and a yet-unspecified date on Sky1 (UK).
