In recognition of its outstanding, worldwide success, Downton Abbey is due to receive a special Tribute and award from BAFTA on Tuesday, 11th August. The Tribute itself will be filmed for broadcast later this year as the cast and crew gather with a live audience to celebrate the show’s unparalleled success as it enters its sixth and final season.

Since its original broadcast in 2010, Downton Abbey has become staple viewing across the UK and the United States, while building a worldwide audience estimated at 120 million people. During its time on the air, the show has received numerous awards, as well as an entry in the 2011 Guinness Book of Records for the most critically acclaimed English-language television series. With this in mind, a Tribute from BAFTA seems a fitting way to begin bringing the superlative series to close.
Executive Producer, Gareth Neame, responded to the award by saying; “I speak for the entire cast and crew when I say how honoured we are that the Academy will recognise the show with this Special Award. Not only is Downton a much-loved show in Britain, it has had huge success in both the U.S. and right around the world”
Downton’s final season will air later on this Autumn, with the final episode serving as the show’s traditional Christmas Special.
