Did you ever think The Doctor would be a criminal? No?
This week’s episode will prove you wrong.
Clara is preparing for a date when The Doctor appears at the most awkward of times and takes her on a very confusing and very complicated bank robbery involving an augmented human, a humanoid and an unknown person called the “Architect” who arranged the whole robbery. Who better to have breaking into the most secure bank in the world that a time lord, a cyborg, a human that can shape-shift and Clara. The episode was fast-paced, with the characters never far away from extreme danger and near-death experiences, making for "edge of your seat" viewing.
Following the tradition of the new series, the episode was filled with sarcastic humour from The Doctor, usually with the intent of belittling Clara. This frequent humour seems to be a very key part of The Doctor’s personality, perhaps to quell his dark side. Leading you to consider that perhaps under the funny and sarcastic exterior there is a much darker side to this new Doctor that we may get to see in a later episode. We do see hints of this darker side on the odd occasion in this episode.

The end of this episode really makes you think. The whole process of the heist and the reveal of the Architect's identity is complex and a little twisty. This is what makes this episode brilliant: It takes a complicated task (breaking into a very high security bank) and then twists it to make it even more complicated, so by the end, your mind is blown by the process.
This week’s episode had a “Mission Impossible/ Tower Heist” feel to it, making The Doctor even more badass than he's shown himself to be previously. The plot is clever. Managing to lead the audience to believing one thing before subverting the entire premise and heading off in a new direction.
The episodes are improving week by week, Steven Moffat and Steve Thompson have proved with this episode that you don’t have to stick to very simple storylines designed for kids.
