Just hours before the casts’ contracts expired, Yahoo! made the announcement that they would be the ones helping Community on its way to gaining #SixSeasonsAndAMovie, resurrecting the show for its sixth season. They’ve ordered a 13-episode run to be aired this autumn on Yahoo! Screen.
Harmon, infamously removed from the show for season four and reinstated for the fifth season, had this to say: "I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo. I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!"
Following NBC’s cancellation of Community in May, Sony attempted to come to an agreement with streaming service Hulu. Talks stalled, and that seemed to be it for the Greendale crew until Yahoo!’s announcement. The acquisition of Community sees a continuation of Yahoo!’s move into original programming, following on from comedy Burning Love.
