There seems to be a bit of a trend currently with different forms of media focusing on a specific topic. This came to my attention since John Green’s The Fault In Our Stars rose to fame. Yes, that’s right, Chasing Life is about a young woman who finds out she has cancer. Don’t let that put you off the show though, it isn’t as depressing as it sounds.

April’s life before she finds out about her condition seems pretty perfect. She has a job she loves, her family are great and supportive, and a guy who has caught her eye in the office asks her out. What could possibly go wrong? Never ask that question; you don’t want the answer to it, April certainly didn’t.

There’s a lot to be said for George. He’s hated by his family and complicates April’s relationship unintentionally, but his heart is in the right place as he fights harder for April’s health than she does. Much as April is a brilliant character, her treatment of George felt appalling. Admittedly, this could be linked to his involvement in something that turned a nearly perfect day into an abysmal one.

April’s straightforward yet polite attitude is refreshing and she never apologises for her actions as she is trying to survive (pre-cancer) in a competitive world. She is the epitome of a strong, independent woman. Though the episode on a whole was good, April and her characterisation stood out above everything else and she literally stole the show.
