It’s that time of year again, when the nominations for the Primetime Emmys are announced. And this year, Game of Thrones is the most nominated series with a total of 19 nominations to its name, while new film-to-TV adaptation Fargo is nominated 18 times. The latest instalment of American Horror Story, Coven, is third place in the nominations list with 17. Let’s look at how the nominations break down in the major categories!

All the best bad guys are British. It’s such an established fact, it’s now the basis of a car advert. In American media, both film and TV, when they need a villain who’s still charismatic and morally ambiguous, they tend to head across the pond. It might just be a national fascination with Received Pronunciation. Or maybe it’s because Brits were once the colonial powers, leaving a lingering mistrust of posh British people in the collective consciousness.

The Doctor Who publicity team is fully in motion. In the last couple of weeks, we’ve heard that the show will be premiering on British TV on August 23rd. Before that, Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman will be off on an around-the-world publicity tour, kicking off in Cardiff on August 7th with the official worldwide premiere of “Deep Breath”. And then there’s the teaser trailers, which keep revealing more and more details...

Just hours before the casts’ contracts expired, Yahoo! made the announcement that they would be the ones helping Community on its way to gaining #SixSeasonsAndAMovie, resurrecting the show for its sixth season. They’ve ordered a 13-episode run to be aired this autumn on Yahoo! Screen.

The World Cup’s here! Depending on your personal taste, that might be the best or the worst part about this summer. If you’re an advertiser, it’s an excuse to make a new advert which refers to football and vaguely alludes to the tournament. Just like the teams playing in the group stages, the adverts range wildly in quality from mini-movies to sexist adverts seemingly lodged in the 1970s. No matter how tenuous the link might be between their product and football, advertisers have all jumped on the bandwagon. Here’s some of the ads you might see in the UK right now!

Original Netflix series Sense8 keeps on adding stars to its cast, with former Doctor Who companion Freema Agyeman announced today as joining the series.

From the brains of the Wachowski siblings (The Matrix) and J Michael Straczynski (creator and show-runner of Babylon 5), Sense8 is Netflix’s latest addition to its original programming. With such a strong sci-fi pedigree, they’ve got to be hoping that it’s just as critically acclaimed as Netflix’s other works.
