Star Wars Rebels has been suffering lately from lack of development and little actual threat to the characters. Admittedly, the show is aimed at a younger audience (hence the general proclivity for stunning weaponry) meaning the writers are more likely to pull their punches when it comes to peril, and the chances of a lucky shot/well timed distraction clinching the victory in favour of our derring do-gooders is assured. This episode, however, brings back some of the sense of threat that has been missing for a while, and it is glorious.

This episode, however, brings back some of the sense of threat that has been missing for a while, and it is glorious. by Graham Osborne 12 Monkeys has truly shucked off its cinematic forebear, and is forging a new future for itself by changing the past and righting wrongs. As the story presses onwards with its attempts to find the cure for the Plague that has destroyed humanity, it becomes ever darker with more risks needing to be taken and plenty more casualties caused. by Graham Osborne Twelve episodes down and one to go… Can Constantine pull off what seems to be the almost impossible and get renewed for a second series? The answer is still up in the air, but rumours abound that suggest the show will return. It may be on another channel (SyFy is one name that has come up) or exclusively through an online streaming service, but it seems the folks at NBC don’t quite want to give up hope for the show yet. by Graham Osborne There are only three more episodes of Agent Carter to go before the series finishes. So far the story has been good, taking off quicker than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and keeping to a tighter schedule to cut down on fluff episodes. Overall, the show has been enjoyable thus far, and this week is no exception. by Graham Osborne Constantine will not let up with the mixed bag of episodes. At times it feels like the writers have been flinging ideas to at the wall to see what sticks. Fortunately this week managed to bring back the tension and horror that the series needs, especially after last week’s incredibly average episode. by Graham Osborne Things are growing dark for Constantine, both in the series and the real world. Last week saw the lowest ratings since episode two, further hinting at the show getting canned after its initial run. Fortunately for us, until then, the show will continue airing and we can watch more of our favourite magician and his cadre of friends. by Graham Osborne We truly are in an era of adaptations. The Marvel Cinematic has set up the dominoes and given us a grand total of at least 30 films featuring all of our favourite superheroes between now and 2020. At the same time, Hannibal and Fargo are taking their silver screen hits and condensing them down into weekly serials that manage to capture the spirit of the original, whilst telling a different story and (in the case of Fargo) bringing in all new characters. 12 Monkeys follows on in the same vein, as we are shown a new version of Terry Gilliam’s 1995 time-travelling epic. by Graham Osborne Finally returning after the Christmas break (it seems such a long time ago now), Constantine is back for the second part of its first (and quite likely only) season. It’s been a bit of a bumpy ride, with low ratings and occasional duff episodes holding it back, but NBC have brought it back in an earlier time slot, though whether to try and save the show, or use it as proof it that no one watches it at any time of day, remains to be seen. by Graham Osborne It’s hard to say where Agent Carter will end up in the long run. The show is enjoyable enough, but lacks the punch of the films, and the series feels more like a slightly more polished Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., with a slow-ish start and building up from there. It’s a good formula, but it relies on a delicate balancing act of maintaining just enough excitement to keep the pace whilst not giving away too much to spoil the rest of the production. Luckily, the episodes of this miniseries are captivating enough to suggest that Marvel are on the right lines. by Graham Osborne Star Wars Rebels has returned from the mid-season break with yet another strong storyline. Ezra is facing concerns from Jarrus following events against the Inquisitor during ‘Gathering Forces’ and the rest of the crew are feeling the pinch as the need for food and fuel becomes ever more apparent. |
