Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s final ever episode aired over ten years ago. Going off that, it seems a fitting time to look back at the series.
The events of the film were to be considered completely separate from the series though some things have filtered through in a vague linking sense, such as the main character’s name (obviously), the reason Buffy had to move to the town of Sunnydale is due to being expelled from her previous school (after there was an infestation of Vampires). And, of course, the vampire slaying.
That’s also to say nothing of the show’s writers as well. It’s not often that you can create an episode with practically no sound whatsoever, and to also create another episode where everyone’s singing like they’re in a musical. Whedon’s writing allowed for many moments that could swing through both sides of the emotional spectrum within a heartbeat (the finale of episode 15 in series 5 springs to mind).
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is still one of the best series that has appeared on television this side of the millennium. It’s definitely worth a watch.
