Daredevil continues its phenomenal start from Episode One with another, equally strong second. Cut Man takes a slightly different tack compared to the previous episode, but that makes it feel even stronger.

Some people love Frank Underwood. Some people really don’t – in fact it’s hard to sort out those who loathe his tactics and those who simply agree because they are wise enough to go along with him. You could go as far as to say the man has been like a hurricane the moment his smug backside hit that presidential chair.

So the good news is no more hiatuses this season! The bad news is that, 10 seasons in, and the boys are still making the same frustrating mistakes.

Strong female characters do not always mean ferocious angered fighting women who back sass and a punch. It’s a trend in movies and television shows that has always irked me because people expect claps on the back for portraying a women as a bullet machine and then labelling them as strong. Similarly, hot-headed women who don’t need men and fight them at every whim. That’s not to say that they aren’t greatly done - at times - but you need to counteract it with shyness. In short, you need to fulfil their character traits and flesh them out. Which is why Claire is particularly annoying this week.

Liv continues to utilise zombification to her advantage as she investigates the death of an old friend. The iZombie world expands with the unveiling of other zombies at large, good and bad, and the growing threat of Blaine’s activities at the skate park.

Often when a television series goes off air for nearly a month mid-way through its season, it is met with tears streaming down fans faces while they wail into their cushions and scream out of frustration. Yeah. Not with Gotham. Actually, the past few weeks have been a dream and I’d actually forgotten that it existed save for using it as “How Not To Make A TV Show About Superheroes” and re-watching that “Joker” scene staring Cameron Monaghan. Its long departure is extremely detrimental: In that time we’ve had Daredevil and the other DC shows return to raucous effect and we’ve moved on. We fell in love with Matt Murdock and have been obsessing about him ever since. Now we’ve definitely trodden in the shit as we walk the streets of Gotham again. And oh my god, it is so boring again.

Now we’re reaching the half way point of Community, I’ve started to work on a theory. The reason the show feels so different to its previous seasons is because they’ve hit a proper reset switch, not like at the beginning of Season Five with their Repilot, but a proper full-on reboot. The show has taken things back to the very beginning, with plenty of long forgotten aspects of characters coming out of the woodwork.

Lords and ladies, your attention please.....It’s back. Oh yes, the murderous, incestuous and life ruining fantasy we call Game of Thrones is back for its fifth season. Arguably the most popular show on TV right now, audiences all over the world have fallen head over heels for the HBO show that’s been adapted from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series, and it’s no surprise; the show has been absolutely sublime. It’s rich in its drama and character development and has provided some of the most shocking TV moments of recent years, not to mention being one of the most violent and sexed up shows on as well. So, after Season Four’s explosive ending, what’s going down in Westeros?

Ahhhh, we are definitely seeing a bigger influx of cult movies heading to the small screen for their own series. There’s the great ones including Fargo and Hannibal, then there are the terrible ones like Bates Motel and the dwindling 12 Monkeys. See just because one television show, like the aforementioned greats, work well is because they are made by people passionate about the original canon or they strike a great tone of character development and juicy thickening plots. The latter examples? Well, they do the complete opposite and it is just pure dullness. Now we have Scream coming to MTV. And with the latest trailer, we’re less than hopeful.

“Sometime having a code is all we have.” This week our patience with the Emma/Snow White/Charming family drama was rewarded with an exciting tale of thieves, wicked witches and Oz. What’s more we got a bit more of Will Scarlett/The Knave of Hearts (finally) and gained a few more pieces of the puzzle surrounding the Author and the time gap since we bid farewell to our Arendelle friends. |
