This week, we actually get to travel to a SHIELD Academy, from which Fitz and Simmons came from. They, along with Skye and Ward, were sent to the academy to investigate a situation where a swimming pool was frozen by a device Fitz had investigated, nearly trapping some students inside.
It’s also nice to see Fitz and Simmons as the important guys in the mission instead of being more behind the scenes. Returning back to their academy they are seen as heroes, which is nice to see compared to Ward perhaps seeing them as inferior due to not being a part of the Operations Academy. Fitz especially forms a vital part of the plot, and its nice to see the duo in a situation they are more comfortable in: on their home-ground surrounded by technology.
Whilst the special effects started relatively well, the water looked like it was actually freezing, and when Donnie Gill (Dylan Minnette) froze, it looked very realistic. But Coulson in his flying car looked completely fake, so obvious that it makes you flinch in disdain, and I’m pretty sure if you were to open a door to a storm, you would feel more than a slight gust.
All in all, a more than average episode, it’s just a shame some of the effects let it down.
