You don’t really get a good feeling when a horror movie goes straight to DVD. I mean, it just reeks of the bargain bins that loiter around the cashier desk at your local Tesco’s that you pick up on a whim when buying your sprouts. There is nothing entirely compelling here, it has come contentious threads to previous producers and writers whilst simultaneously boasting a cast from the background of famous television shows. Everything about The Atticus Institute looks terrible and the trailer has come along for the new release to hammer that home.
The movie, told in both filmed and found footage, tells the story of a parapsychology lab who realises that one of their test subjects may not be psychic but is sure as hell possessed by an evil entity. So when the government intervenes to weaponize the demon, all hell breaks loose and well, bad bad things happen.
There just doesn’t seem to be a tangible shred of goodness here so the entire premise, trailer and poster looks horribly off putting. This might be worth it if you are a massive fan of horror movies and need to watch every horror movie ever made. However, if you have any sense, you’ll leave this alone.
The Atticus Institute is released in the UK on DVD & Blu-ray on March 23rd, 2015 and UK Digital HD on March 9th, 2015. Coming soon internationally. To purchase on Amazon.co.uk, click here.
