In 2010 young director Gareth Edwards burst onto the scene with his critically-acclaimed movie Monsters. Made on a small budget and, famously, with just his laptop, the film introduced the world to his talent and helped kick-start the career of Scoot McNairy – someone who you’ll be seeing in a certain Batman movie in 2016.
To be honest I didn’t see what all the fuss was about; the film was slow, dull and culminated with two giant jellyfish fondling each other in a petrol station. I’m sure there was some lovely hidden message to it all, but I’m not that cultured. Edwards has since moved on to bigger and better monsters in the form of a certain giant radioactive lizard, but that hasn’t stopped a sequel emerging from the dust.
Monsters: Dark Continent centres on four military recruits as they are sent in to rescue a group of soldiers who mysteriously vanished in an ‘Infected Zone’. Though the fact there’s huge, lumbering aliens walking around may go some way to finding out whodunit.
We’ve got hold of a new trailer that contains all manner of shouty military clichés, explosions and nasty alien beasties. Will it be a hit? Probably not, but at least it looks cool.
