A generation will cry when they watch this middling trailer for new Brian Wilson bio, Love & Mercy. Described by Elton John as “one of the great American geniuses", the life of Brian Wilson should make an interesting biopic. From an early troubled childhood, Brian’s musical leanings shone as a child. The Pendletones was formed by Brian, his brothers, Carl, Dennis, cousin, Mike Love and classmate, Al Jardine. They later went onto change the bands name to The Beach Boys, creating the ‘Californian’ sound; it’s that soundtrack that you get in your head when you think of sunshine and surfing in the 60s. Brian’s later drug use led to him being cared for by the notorious Dr Landy, whose methods contributed to his later deregistration.
Yup, all this, and the trailer is just slightly, ordinary. Paul Dano plays the young Brian Wilson, and seems to be having fun with his role. John Cusack plays the aged Brian Wilson and I want this to work, I really do, though, this is not the trailer that showcases his possible similarities to Wilson
There’s some great tales to be told and music to fall in love with again in Love & Mercy, so wouldn’t it be nice if we were older…er…if the film is better than this trailer
