It may sound like a rail network that’s run by a baby lion, but Cymbeline sure does bring the grit in this brand new trailer. The film is currently smooching critics on gondolas at the Venice Film Festival, but those of us who haven’t made the pilgrimage can still get a ruddy good taste of proceedings in this relatively short clip.
It’s yet another modern adaptation of a Shakespeare piece, though it’s certainly one of his lesser-known ones, in which a story of greed, lust and revenge has been given a modern lick of paint and dumped into contemporary America. Want to see an epic battle between dirty cops and a drug-dealing biker gang? Then this is the film for you.
Ed Harris dons a leather jacket and machine gun, Ethan Hawke just does his ‘thing’ and Milla Jovovich takes a break from fighting the undead to turn up as the obligatory pretty face. Not a bad cast at all.
Cymbeline isn’t hitting US theatres til next spring and unfortunately we don’t know if it’ll reach the UK at all.
