Set in post-war 1950s Russia and revolving around a plot that features the military, it's easy to understand why; the first time watching the trailer, I did. But it's not a war film, not exactly, think of Child 44 as a thriller set during a post-war period because that is what it is.
Starring Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman and Noomi Rapace, Child 44 follows the story of Leo Demidov (Hardy), a member of the military police who beings to investigate a murder after the child of a solider is found dead. This soon leads him onto a journey on which he uncovers the fact this murder is just another in a long list of child murders, number 44 in fact, hence the title.
If the trailer is anything to go by, Child 44 looks set to be a decent thriller; the trailer upping the mystery and tension just enough to make you wonder if Demidov succeeds in catching the killer.
Child 44 is set to be released in cinemas nationwide on April 17th.
