Well, it’s safe to say that is certainly looks worth it. Starring Amy Adams (Margaret) aside Christoph Waltz (Walter), Big Eyes follows the true story of successful painter Margaret Keane in the 50’s and her ongoing legal problems with her husband who claimed to be the artist of all her work. Looking at Keane’s work and technique it is no wonder that Burton wanted to take the chance to be a part of this one and the clue is in the title!
Each and every piece is the beautifully drawn portrait but turned into a caricature by big, bold eyes shaded immensely. Interestingly, this is the second autobiographical feature the man has ever done, the first being Ed Wood back in 1994. Perhaps, for the time being Burton is reverting back to old forms, inside of his recent work which usually involved strange and wonderful creatures, outrageously dressed characters and the old song. Albeit from this, bar a few exceptions this appears to be an in-depth drama about a husband trying to take all the credit away from his clearly very talented wife. A branch away from conventional Burton but nevertheless, this doesn’t look like it will disappoint. The film also stars Breaking Bad’s Krysten Ritter, Danny Huston, Jason Schwartzman and Terence Stamp.
Big Eyes is going to be rather the Christmas treat and is released on Boxing day 26th December 2014.
