You know when you watch a film trailer, you’re not 100% sure what is going on but you are pretty certain you are supposed to laugh at some point?
The new Accidental Love trailer is exactly like that. This abandoned David O’Russell project, that was initially meant to be released in 2008, has gained momentum – due to be released earlier in the year. Though the world needs another David O’Russell film like it needs a nail in the head (badoomtsh), the quirky pre-Jennifer Lawrence film has it’s merits.
Alice Eckle (Jessica Biel) is a waitress who, whilst getting proposed to by her boyfriend Scott (James Marsden), gets a nail lodged in her head. Due to having no insurance and so receives no healthcare, she is left prone to unpredictable behaviour. She teams up with young senator Howard Birdwell (Jake Gyllenhaal) in an attempt to “help people who have weird conditions that they can’t afford to fix.” Howard and Alice discover feelings for each other, but is a relationship a really good idea?
It looks like the sort of comedy that may be cringy rather than funny. Alice will more than likely do something ‘unpredictable’ at the worst of times, making her moments actually rather predictable. This is, of course, just speculation, however judging by the trailer it does seem like, just because there is a wonderful and highly skilled cast, that doesn’t mean that the film is going to be just as great.
Accidental Love is due in cinemas sometime this year, though the official date has not been disclosed yet.
