Written by novelist Graham Greene and starring Joseph Cotton, Alida Valli, Trevor Howard and Orson Welles, The Third Man is a thriller and noir unlike any other. Holly Martins is a writer of pulp Westerns who is invited to post-war Vienna by his friend Harry Lime. However, when Martins gets there, he discovers that Lime has been accidentally killed. Furthermore, there is an investigation into his character as he was supposedly conducting unsavoury crimes that left children and people ill or dead. Martins conducts his own research into the loss of his friend, including getting closer to Lime’s lover Anna. As Martin discovers that a “third man” was present at the scene of the suspicious accident, the clues point towards murder. Can Martins piece it all together?
